Word finder is a small Macintosh application for looking up words of which some letters are already known, such as in a crossword. It has a dictionary of over 100,000 words. It can also search for words or anagrams that are contained in a jumble of letters.
Word Finder is a fat binary application, so it runs natively on PowerPC or 68K machines.
It requires System 7.0 and needs about 300K of RAM (prefers 400K+) and 1Mb on disk.
To look up a word:
Type the word, substituting '?' characters for the unknown letters and click 'Search'. A list of matching words will be displayed in the scroll box. Only the first 1024 words will be shown in the list.
To look up an anagram:
Type the jumbled letters, click in the 'Anagram Search' checkbox, and click 'Search'. You can also specify, the minimum and maximum length of words to look for by altering the values in the popup menus. The '?' can also be used as a wild character in anagram searches, where it will be matched to any character.
Word Finder is my first Macintosh application, and can be freely distributed, provided this 'Readme' file is included. Word Finder is postcardware, which means that if you use this program, you should send me a postcard from where ever you live. If you don't want to send a card, you can send me an e-mail, but I would prefer a card!
